Challenges & Goals

MAD Events Management produces Long Beach Comic Con and Comic Expo, two annual Southern California shows that celebrate comic books, pop culture, and fandom. After years of locally focused media efforts, the team partnered with UberStrategist to expand the events’ visibility.

Our goal was to generate broader press coverage for each convention—highlighting celebrity guests, panels, and exhibits—and to streamline press operations through on-site support and improved credentialing.

Strategic Approach

We broadened media outreach beyond local publications, targeting comic, film, TV, pop culture, and mainstream press. Each campaign included media blasts promoting programming highlights like cosplay contests, NASA STEM exhibits, and the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics.

To support smooth operations on-site, we managed press credentialing, issued media badges, and coordinated interviews and photo opportunities. Our team was present at all four events to ensure press had what they needed to cover the shows.

Results

Our efforts helped Long Beach Comic Con and Comic Expo earn consistent coverage across a range of top-tier and regional outlets, including ComicBook, Newsarama, Bleeding Cool, LA Weekly, KTLA, Long Beach Post, and The Orange County Register.

With expanded press outreach and comprehensive on-site support, MAD Events reached an estimated audience of 300 million and elevated both conventions as leading celebrations of comics and fandom on the West Coast.
