Strong Press And Sales Results

Owlcat Games, creators of critically acclaimed cRPGs Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, sought ÜberStrategist’s support for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, the first- ever cRPG set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The goal of our ongoing campaign was to achieve critical acclaim and significant press coverage to match or exceed the success of their previous titles. With ongoing DLC updates planned, the project required a sustained PR effort to maintain momentum post-launch.

We leveraged the well-known Warhammer IP and Owlcat’s reputation for exceptional cRPGs to reach both Warhammer and cRPG audiences. Our approach included targeting press familiar with these games and genres, creating tailored pitch lists, and providing detailed preview access to Rogue Trader.

Recognizing the success of titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, we capitalized on these trends to position Rogue Trader. When coverage declined for the Void Shadows DLC, we pivoted to promoting a sale bundle to secure coverage across Tier 1 outlets and boost visibility.

Our campaign helped Rogue Trader achieve consistent, strong press coverage before launch, culminating in positive reviews and a Metacritic score of 78. Post-launch, the Void Shadows DLC earned an even higher Metacritic score of 86.

Throughout the campaign, we achieved regular press coverage from IGN, GameSpot, PC Gamer, Game Rant, PCGamesN, TheGamer, Polygon, Sports Illustrated, and more. Owlcat also relayed that the coverage during the sale period increased Rogue Trader’s sales by a noticeable amount. In the end, our efforts helped us increase the game's visibility, reach sales milestones, and further establish Owlcat as a respected developer.
