World Championship Boxing Manager 2, the official follow-up to its 1991 predecessor, features updated mechanics and hand-drawn 32-bit artwork. Publisher Ziggurat Interactive partnered with UberStrategist to lead a full-scale PR campaign, spanning from reveal to launch and review management.
Our goal was to modernize the game while playing on its nostalgic appeal to engage both boxing and simulation fans. We aimed to secure widespread media coverage and position the sequel as a must-play for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
We developed a marketing plan emphasizing the modernization of the predecessor’s nostalgia, the deeply intricate simulation aspects, and the presence of real-world boxing champions.
Our campaign included a well-timed reveal announcement and major news placements to sustain our efforts leading up to the launch. We also managed the review cycle and coordinated high-impact features, including an interview with Sports Illustrated highlighting the game’s partnerships with Superare and Onward.
Our campaign secured widespread coverage across gaming and sports media, with top-tier outlets such as IGN, Sportskeeda, 4Gamer, Playground, Game Spark, Bleeding Cool, and others spotlighting the title. This coverage resulted in a combined estimated reach of 1.6 billion which generated awareness and buzz for the launch.
By effectively bridging the gap between gaming and boxing audiences, World Championship Boxing Manager 2 gained significant visibility and enthusiasm from players and press alike. The strategic PR approach reinforced its status as a worthy sequel and successfully brought the franchise back into the spotlight.
“This charming little management game with a retro look and feel to it has collaborated with fight apparel brands Superare and Onward, two well- known names in the space, incorporating their product and branding into the game.”
